Activity, Fitness & Skills
Mountaineering: Hiking uphill in snow
This trip is rated Intermediate-Plus. The participants should have ample hiking experience along with experience with snow travel and using crampons, axes and mountaineering skills.
Our pace will be a slow-moderate, mountaineering style but with short breaks every hour.
Fitness is important for the enjoyment of this trip as it is moderately strenuous. You will be carrying a full backpack with your water, food, gear and layers for the day and will have to navigate both uphill and downhill in snow conditions.
Prepare for about 7 miles round trip with over 2500 feet of elevation gain taking around 6 hours in total.
It is important for you to stay well hydrated and fed prior to departure to assist in mitigating altitude sickness if you are coming from sea level.
We highly recommend participants to be practicing fitness training before the trip. Some suggestions include hiking outdoors, using a weighted pack, treadmill at an incline, stair stepper or box steps. Adding in some leg weight training will provide even more benefit.
Trip is expected to start between 7-8AM, to be confirmed the week before event.

βDear women adventurers of all skill levels, you need to take a trip with Alpinistas Collective! I just returned from the Cold Weather Skills workshop in Yosemite and I've learned more in three days than I have in all my years of hiking and camping. It's so rare to find guiding experiences that are fun, connect you with likeminded folks, AND equip you with a ton of new skills.β

βI had the absolute best experience on a rock climbing trip with Emily and Joanne! Every part of the weekend was fantastic - the camping experience was wonderful, the guides were knowledgeable and kept everyone safe, and the climbing was so much fun! I'm looking forward to future trips with Alpinistas Collective, and love the work they are doing in making outdoor education more accessible to women!β
