Wild Minds Retreats is partnering with Alpinistas so that you can get to this epic spot while still incorporating all the nature based mindfulness and reflection you love.

The stunning and secluded Frog Lake Huts are located in some of the most beautiful and hard-to-get-reservations-for areas of Tahoe, providing a unique and unforgettable outdoor adventure. With our expert female guides and comfortable accommodations (bunks & mattress!), you'll have the chance to explore some of the most picturesque landscape in the region while enjoying the stunning scenery and fresh mountain air.

This trip is for all the boujee ladies who love comfort, but still want to get out there deep into the wilderness. We’ll hike in for 6 miles but enjoy the comfort of a modern hut when we get there. Electricity, flushing toilets, hot & cold running water, a separate hut for communal lounging by the fire and a commercial kitchen make this maintained hut experience a pleasure!

Throughout the event, you'll enjoy Wild Minds popular mindfulness programming, delicious meals with new friends, guided hikes or relaxation, if you choose.

  • This trip is rated Intermediate.

  • This is a hike in to the hut experience where you will be required pack in your overnight essentials, pillow and sleeping bag. All should easily fit into a day hike backpack.

  • This is a recreational, relaxing hut experience, however, you must be fit enough to hike in uphill with your essential gear. We will take a slow-moderate pace as there is no rush!

Accommodations

Modern hike hut featuring twin size bunk beds in the same section for a group, hostel style, sleeping arrangement.

There is electricity, hot & cold running water and a flushing toilet available.

The huts are clean and maintained by a resident hutmeister. Your guides will sleep in a separate guide hut.

Hard Skills* Level

Low

Although there will be instructions on how and what to pack for this trip, given that we are hiking to a hut with running water and beds, backpacking skills are not needed for this trip.

Soft Skills* Level

Moderate

We will spend time focusing on mindfulness and setting intentions before the trip. 

During the trip we will have morning meditation, time spent journaling and embarking on a mindful hike.

Activity Level

Low-Moderate

You must be able to hike 6-7 miles with a 15-20 Lb pack on. 

You can opt to have your pack be lighter by carrying less comfort items.

*Hard Skills = The amount of time spent teaching technical skills related to backpacking like map reading, water filtration, backcountry cooking etc. 

*Soft Skills = The amount of time spent on mindfulness and meditation practices.

Packing List

When packing, try to bring only what you need since this is shared lodging. This not only makes your load lighter but also helps to keep enough room in the cabin for everyone’s stuff.

Since this is a relaxing weekend, feel free to bring any game or activity you’d enjoy to do at camp.

Hi I’m Zoe, therapist of 10 years, and a wilderness educator of 15 years. 

Whether I’m working as a wilderness guide or therapist, my secret sauce is creating spaces where you get to show up and bring your most authentic and truest self as a way to heal and grow.

What to expect after you book your reservation

After you book your reservation, you will receive a confirmation email. Over the following weeks as you start to get closer to your event date, you will receive additional emails confirming packing lists, itinerary details and other important or helpful supplemental information such as start time and driving directions. The week of the event, you should be ready to go and you will receive a final email introducing your guides, providing you with their contact information and other last minute notes.

The meal options will be communicated to you in advance of the event and we will do our best to make dietary accommodations.

Your event does require a certain minimum number of participants to run. Don’t worry though, our group size is naturally quite small to keep it special and relaxing experience so the minimum booking requirement is also lower than other guide services.

What is the average age of attendees?

It is hard to know in advance the ages of attendees but our events do not discriminate based on age. We’ve had plenty of events that span the ages of 55 and older along with a much younger crowd. All that we ask for this event is that you are over 18 and in good hiking shape to carry your gear in to the hut!

This event takes place in Truckee-Tahoe Donner and we will hike in to stay at Frog Lake Huts.

Booking airfare?

If you are flying in for this trip, please contact us before booking airfare to make sure that your trip is confirmed. We require a minimum number of participants to operate.

Is alcohol allowed?

Alpinistas does not allow alcohol use while on guided hikes. You may enjoy BYOB at the hut, at dinner or on your free time.

Can we swim in the lake?

Alpinistas does not have lifeguards on staff and will not be running or overseeing any water activities. You are free to enjoy the lake at your own risk as it will be unsupervised.

General weather expectations

Tahoe daytime temperatures can range between 70 to 85 degrees F, with overnight lows dropping to the 60s or 50s. Afternoon thunderstorms are unlikely, however, if we will notify you to bring rain gear if we see rain in the forecast.

Travel Insurance

We highly recommend travel insurance to protect your trip in the event unforeseeable circumstances or illness comes up that interferes with your ability to join the trip.
