Women’s Holiday Weekend

Experience Tahoe right before the holiday crowds with our women’s weekend getaway!

Enjoy two days and one night at the rustic Sierra Club’s Hutchinson Lodge in Tahoe National Forest. Enjoy guided snowshoe hikes or cross country skiing and relaxation by the fire in this cozy lodge.

This weekend is full of hot chocolate, treats and good company. Join a group of other outdoorsy women to enjoy the early season snow, make new trail friends and spend the weekend in beautiful Tahoe!

That’s not all, all guests will be entered into a holiday raffle filled with fun gifts to celebrate the holiday season.

  • Saturday

You’ll meet your guide at the lodge just before lunch to head off snowshoeing.

Enjoy hot chocolate on the trail.

In the afternoon, we’ll check in, grab a bunk and settle into our lodge for the night.

You can then spend your time socializing and hanging out in the common area. A great time to make new friends or curl up in the corner with a good book!

In the evening, we’ll get together in the kitchen and prepare our dinners.

Afterwards, we’ll have a White Elephant gift exchange and then start our holiday raffle.

If you are up for a moonlit snowshoe, we’ll be taking off into the night. Or, you may just hang out by the fire drinking cocoa and chatting with your new friends!

    Sunday

We’ll have the option to get up early for a yoga & hike session. Or, you may just lounge around with your morning coffee.

Mid-morning we’ll all pack up our gear and start our next snowshoe tour or feel free to head out on some cross country skis.

Once we get back to our cars, we’ll cover some final thoughts and have our “see you laters”!

  • Snowshoeing: Hiking in snow

This trip is rated Beginner. We’ll be touring on mild terrain and enjoying our time in the hut.

Our pace will be a slow, and we estimate about 3-4 miles of travel over the course of the day.

We recommend that you stay well hydrated and fed prior to departure to assist in mitigating altitude sickness if you are coming from sea level.

What to expect after you book your reservation

After you book your reservation, you will receive a confirmation email with some action items. Over the following weeks as you start to get closer to your event date, you will receive additional emails confirming itinerary details, pre-course material and other important or helpful supplemental information such as start time and driving directions. The week of the event, you should be ready to go and you will receive a final email introducing your guides, providing you with their contact information and other last minute notes.

Your event does require a certain minimum number of participants to run. Don’t worry though, our group size is naturally quite small to keep it special and relaxing experience so the minimum booking requirement is also lower than other guide services.

What are the accommodations like?

Don’t expect luxury here, this is a bare bones yet cozy, heated hut operated by Clair Tappaan. The Hutchinson Lodge is within easy walking distance of the main lodge, but far enough away to have a feeling of solitude. Built in 1924 as a winter retreat for lovers of the Sierra Nevada, Hutchinson Lodge, originally named the Sierra Ski Club, is a rustic, un-staffed lodge situated in the woods next door to Clair Tappaan Lodge. It is enjoyed year-round by a variety of groups. Guests bring their own bedding, towels, toiletries, and food. The lodge has a fully equipped kitchen, two sleeping lofts with sleeping pads, a 8-person sauna, showers, and toilets. Two efficient wood burning stoves provide heat. Max capacity is about 25.

What is the closest airport?

The closest airport to Tahoe is Reno, NV (RNO) or Sacramento, CA.

Booking airfare?

If you are flying in for this trip, please contact us before booking airfare to make sure that your trip is confirmed. We require a minimum number of participants to operate.

General weather expectations

Sierra daytime temperatures at this time of year can range between 45 to 55 degrees F, with overnight lows dropping to the 20s - 30s. This course is all about getting you prepared and comfortable for variable weather.

Travel Insurance

We highly recommend travel insurance to protect your trip in the event unforeseeable circumstances or illness comes up that interferes with your ability to join the trip.

“Dear women adventurers of all skill levels, you need to take a trip with Alpinistas! I just returned from the Cold Weather Skills workshop in Yosemite and I've learned more in three days than I have in all my years of hiking and camping. It's so rare to find guiding experiences that are fun, connect you with likeminded folks, AND equip you with a ton of new skills.”

— Ashley

“I had the absolute best experience on a rock climbing trip with Joanne’s Team! Every part of the weekend was fantastic - the camping experience was wonderful, the guides were knowledgeable and kept everyone safe, and the climbing was so much fun! I'm looking forward to future trips with Alpinistas, and love the work they are doing in making outdoor education more accessible to women!”
